Here is the sad thing...for years the PSU program produced many quality young men and still do. The current team is 8-1 and has a chance to be really special if they can win out...then this hits their program and it is likely the coaching staff is not going to be focused for the game vs Nebraska...that's not fair to current players of course, and it sucks, but it is what it is.
I feel for the victims, man what a mess. I do agree Paterno needs to go just on a human moral standpoint. I don't care what he says, he didn't do enough from a human standpoint. Now for the Catholic church as well, lots of priests do their jobs very well, and just like JoePa, this will taint them, well forever...but then again I have no doubt this went on since the middle ages anyway. The pope needs to rescind the edict that priests can't marry IMO. It was a selfish edict back when they enacted it to line the pockets of the vatican and continues today...silly human rule. The sad part is just like PSU, it will serve to draw people away from the church at a time when we all need something in our lives. I am not Catholic btw but St Louis is one of the largest Catholic towns out there so hear about this a lot. It's all just sick. |

36 years ago I was married by a pedo devil priest who was an alcoholic to boot at St. Joseph's Church in Mendham, NJ. Fr. Hanley sodomized hundreds of young boys and ruined their lives. The Roman Catholic Church protected him instead of burning him at the stake. Our altar boy appeared on 20/20 to tell the gruesome story. This kind of sickness has to be expunged from our society. Joepa had this deviate as his fair haired boy for 32 years and Paterno must step down or forever be associated with hideousness. |

R.I.P. Easy Ed Macauley - a St Louis legend is right, they still talk about that guy around here. A true stud, in the bball HOF and just an icon to St Louis basketball.

Joepa had this deviate as his fair haired boy for 32 years and Paterno must step down or forever be associated with hideousness.Paterno will be associated with this scandal no matter what he does. His coaching record will be the secondary part of his legacy. Considering he is the winningest coach in CFB history, that tells you how big this scandal is. There's a lot more to this story. Why would Sandusky "retire" at age 55? I'm guessing his attraction to little boys played a signficant role. Paterno is getting lots of criticism, and rightfully so, but how in the heck is the local prosecutor back in 1999 and 2002 not getting criticized? Clearly, Paterno could have found out more about the situation, could have pushed for something to be done. Instead, he let his friendship with Sandusky get in the way, so he chose to be blissfully ignorant. What's the prosecutor's excuse? He is, after all, charged wih enforcing the laws of Pennsylvania. From what I understand, there was little investigation done into the 2002 incident. For instance, the Grad Assistant was reportedly never interviewed. |

If there was ever a scandal that a coaching great will never get over than this is the one, he will never live this down. It's a shame I used to respect him as a coach but I no longer can. I don't care what he did, to look the other way on this was just unforgivable. I will forever hate everything Penn State. These are children we are talking about!

Chief - don't hate on Penn State, it's not the University itself, and you have to feel for the current players who have a great season going...it's the few people who knew, the coaching staff in Paterno and McQueary and who else knew? Then the administration that did nothing, two who have been fired and formally charged.
I don't think I would hate on Penn State cause of this any more than I would hate on Va Tech cause of that shooter killing people a couple years ago. It makes you think though doesn't it...one mistake and a 46 year career, most coaching wins ever...just goes down the toilet. Sure it is a big mistake just unfathomable mistake really, but one thing you didn't do so long ago now crushes you. We all know Joe is not a bad guy, he likely just didn't think this would really happen. Having heard stories about him for so long, I am guessing his wife is just sick about this too. Baseball - I see the rumors have Pujols or Fielder going to Texas; Catfish - rumors say the Phillies may not sign Madson. Francona was in town yesterday to interview...I am guess he ends up in Chicago and the Cardinals take Oquendo or Sandberg Phoggy, Chief, what do you think about the Melky for Sanchez trade? |

hawk- sandberg is not leaving the phillies bc manual is done after 2012 ! no one does research around here. those 4 dopes on the mlb network refuse to mention sandberg is taking over for manual in 1 yr. the cubs triple crossed him and he's done with chicago. the cards want an experienced guy like francona. what has oquendo or for that matter joe mcewing ever done at the major league managing level ? nothing ! the cards should take francona. i just don't think sandberg will go anywhere and especially to the losers in chicago. if pujols leaves, st. louis goes down the toilet. why would sandberg go there if pujols leaves.
and madsen....? i think it will be done. don't see why dave montgomery put a stop to the sigjning in the first place. and hawk - you have little girls at home...imagine if they played hoops at penn st and the female's hoops coach violated them ? you would go nuts on them ! it's wrong across the board and the moment joe pa found out about sandusky - he should've been fired and a public apology should've been made aware of etc. HE DID NOTHING! NOTHING HAWK! that alone makes him GUILTY and he should be led out with sandusky in handcuffs. he violated the sanctity of player-coach/confidant! he ignored the player and looked out for the coach aka his long time pal! terrible. for shame espn for not showing the player's cards on the final table and last 2 players on the world series of poker last night. it took all t he fun out of watching ! they said it was to avoid cheating. how ? no one can see their cards but the camera. and the german guy played way too slow. i watch poker a lot and never seen 2 players who never got decent cards. once the russian guy won that pot of 122,100 + he should've put the hammer on the guy. instead he folded 5 hands in a row of pots of 11 mil, 15 mil, 22 mil, 2.5 mil and i think 5 mil. what the hell was he thinking.. ? most hands never went the full 5 cards!! brutal ! and vegas had a 15 min delay on too. what was that all about ? terrible. in most final tables they edit the bad hands out and show the good ones etc. last night - they showed every damn hand for 4 straight hours. i finally had enough and went to bed at 12:30 am! PU! |

Catfish - I totally agree with you on the PSU stuff, but just saying don't hate the university. I sure as heck would send my daughters to play there if they got a scholarship, but they already know that anyone touching them...they would yell, kick, scream, etc and they would not be silent. They would be screaming bloody murder in that shower. I think that is what is so heinous about it, that they kids he picked were kids from his charity that he knew would not say anything, that he had power over them to do what he did. I almost vomit just writing that. I agree, kick the lot of them out...but I also feel for JoePa, I mean 46 years to end like this...wow. Still, he has to face the music.
Well Sandberg to the Phillies then, so who knows maybe Tito does come to St Louis, it wouldn't be a rebuilding job like Chicago would...depends on what he wants and what offers are on the table. I too watched some of the poker, but man I got tired, they were slow. I didn't want the kid to win cause he just looked like a punk and played like it, but oh well. I didn't watch to the end. I was also annoyed they didn't show the cards. |

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Keane taught himself to draw while attending Northeast Catholic High School by mimicking the style of the cartoons published in The New Yorker.
same class as my Dad. I always remember him talking about Bil Keane. They're were the same age - 89. |

With all of this talk going on about Joe Paterno I am curious as to what everybody thinks will be the extent of the damage to his legacy. Here is a link to a poll on the subject of the damage to his legacy that I started earlier this morning here on CBS Sports.com: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messagJoePa is an old creepophile who should be thrown into a tarpit. es/chrono/33216492. |

Because I am not as forgiving as I should be, I believe that all of those who knew about the PSU abuse, as well as all Catholic bishops who moved peddy priest around, and any other person who fails to follow through in order to keep other children from being harmed, should be raped by a bigger, stronger person and then asked if they think their choices were wise. But, that's just vengeful little ol' me...

the moment joe pa didn't tell authorities is where he went wrong. sandusky should've been in jail for this 10+ yrs ago, but instead was allowed to keep on coaching. wrong wrong wrong. joe pa's legacy is tarnished forever ! he should've got out 10 yrs ago but no, he had to stay on etc. well, karma is a beetch joe and now you got it.

Paterno and his perverted associates will be frozen for eternity in the ninth circle of Hell as delineated in Dante's Inferno. The scarring permanent harm done to those children will sour Penn State's reputation forever. Jerry Sandusky should be fed to ravenous hyenas. Nebraska will demolish this evil opponent in Pedo Valley, State Sodomy, PA. |

Here's the thing, I want Penn State to win...not for Joe or anything but more that Iowa is in the same division and any losses by opponents is good for my Hawkeyes. Plus I don't extend my feelings of disgust to the actual team, just the folks that were involved by their inaction to do what is right.
What kills me is that ESPN is reporting that McQueary is keeping his job and will be moved to the press box for his own safety on Saturday. If am in the stands below the press box, I am bringing a slingshot and some heavy rocks or maybe those civil war bullets to have at it on his red headed butt. |
